Brett's Journal of
ipad utilization
4.23.10 As an ‘out of church’ pastor, whose office is Starbucks, I
do allot of witnessing and discussing theology with many people (and
studying) in the community. Often, if my computer is with me and on, I
can get people to watch a PowerPoint or a video I have on a subject
they are interested in. If I have to get my computer, wait for it to
boot up, etc., I usually loose them. To have a device I can have all
my video resources (for example, a movie from Harvard medicine on the
cell – it is amazing and shows that a cell is so complex it couldn’t
have evolved), and all my notes, PowerPoint's, and Bible study tools,
that you don’t have to wait for it to boot when you need to access the
data and it is with you and doesn’t need to be plugged in due to the
10+ hour battery life (my laptop lasts about 30 minutes on battery),
just as a tool that will be with you and allows you to instantly
access that data anywhere, anytime, without worrying about battery
life is HUGE.
4.30.10 Shawn arrived at the Apple Store at 8AM
to get in line for the new ipad 3G. He was first in line, and I
joined him at 10'ish. We spent the day review apps and talking
with others in line. Our wives joined us and soon the line was
huge! At 5PM we were the first ones in the Apple store to
purchase our ipad 3G's. By the time I arrived at my house until
it was fully set up was about 3 hours. I synced all my photos
(over 5,000), music, Gmail, Gmail contacts, and Gmail calendar.
I downloaded most of the productivity apps I will need and many free
books for ibook. The accessories I purchased were: the VGA
cable for presentations via a projector, the remote control to change
slides, a wireless keyboard, the camera adapter, and the earphones
with built in microphone. So far, everything has gone totally
smooth, and I am extremely pleased with my first impression of the
ipad. Since I have my Sunday sermon in PowerPoint, I'm not sure
if I will be able to use the ipad this Sunday, but I will try to
import it into keynote and have it ready for the message this Sunday.
I think this will be capable of doing everything I need it to do and
more!
